The claim
came in a clinical study in Sweden. The Stockholm University Research says that
the loss of sense of smell in the risk of early death in middle age. It was first
explored the relationship between Alzheimer's disease and sense of smell, but
this is the first time that loss of sense of smell causes premature death.
Research was
carried out on 1774 people of ages between 40 to 90. At the beginning of the
study these people were asked to identify thirteen different fragrances. The
researchers said that the risk of premature death of people can be the
calculated by the score of this test, each wrong answer increases the risk of
early death by eight per cent over ten years.
According to
the study results of the test can provide important information about mental
health. With aging the weakening sense of smell are pointing to it. The
researchers said that the results revealed that the sense of smell can be used
to predict any deaths.
The researchers
said that more research will be done in
this regard and we will try to identify the biological processes in order to
explain it.
But he said
that there is no reason to fear for those who have temporary loss of the sense.
They may be the result of a condition and restore soon.
